about > help > How to Define and Post to an Additional Custom Category
Twitmart is designed to focus attention on the most popular categories and those likely to gather the largest number of postings. So custom categories are likely to reach fewer people. We highly recommend using the standard categories. Still Custom Categories do offer advantages. They enable "threaded conversations" around postings that may not require broad exposure to gain participation. Similarly, it may be a place to bring all your posts on a "topic" under one category. Examples #name or #business or #wishlist.
There are a number of ways to create a post into a unique category.
- Method 1. Use the URL http://twitmart.org/area/customcategoryname This will return a search of all items with this Twitter #hashtag. Go to the Post link at the top right of the page and a new post to your chosen #CustomCategory is ready to be completed.
- Method 2. Simply Tweet from any Twitter client a "Tweet with a #hashtag". Then sign-in to Twitmart go to http://twitmart.org/acct/tweets and promote this tweet. This Tweet will now appear in your public page http://twitmart.org/user/twittername and be listed as a custom category. The downside of this approach is your original tweet didn't include the TwitmartURL and was limited to 140 characters.
You can "Retweet" the post with the Twitmart URL from your
http://twitmart.org/acct/posts page or use method 3 below.
- Method 3. Perfect for registered Twitmart users. Instead of method 2, simply send a DM direct message to Twitmart from your registered Twitter ID. Example
"d twitmart #category your description". Twitmart will publish your classified on your behalf adding the TwitmartURL to your Tweet. You will get a DM response back from Twitmart, indicating that your post has been published. Once you get that acknowledgment, you can add additional descriptive content to the posting directly from your phone by SMS from your favorite Twitter client by sending a DM direct message to Twitmart of the form"d twitmart ADD additional text... and imageURL (optional)". You can edit this post at any time in the normal way in Twitmart, adding additional description. This works for all #hashtags.
